Difference between boiled and distilled water

When it comes to clean drinking water, many people turn to boiled water or distilled water. But what’s the difference, and which one is better for you?

 

Boiled Water


Boiling water is one of the oldest methods to kill bacteria, viruses, and other harmful organisms. By heating water to 212°F (100°C), most contaminants are destroyed, making it safer to drink. However, boiling water doesn’t remove impurities like heavy metals, chemicals, or minerals. So while it’s a quick and easy way to make tap water safer, it doesn’t necessarily make the water "pure."

 

Distilled Water


Distilled water, on the other hand, is created by boiling water and collecting the steam. The process removes almost all impurities, including minerals, chemicals, and microorganisms, resulting in extremely pure water. This can be great for certain uses—like in humidifiers, car batteries, or medical devices—but for drinking, some people miss the natural minerals that give water its taste and health benefits.

 

Which Is Better?


If your main concern is quickly making tap water safer to drink, boiled water gets the job done. But if you’re looking for the purest form of water, distilled water is the way to go. Keep in mind, however, that distilled water lacks the minerals that are naturally present in most drinking water. So, while it’s clean, it might not be as flavorful or beneficial for everyday hydration.

Ultimately, the choice depends on your needs and preferences.
